What is bulking? | Bodybuilding | HunkyFlake

           

Bulking simply refers to get bulked up to look bigger, stronger and muscular.

Bulking is the most common practice done by every fitness freak to make them more muscular and stronger.

Like fat loss, cutting, shredding, weight loss, etc the bulking also depends on calorie in and calorie out cycle.

If you consume more calories above your maintenance calories than you are going to bulk.

IN A SIMPLE WAY:
Calories In > Calories Out = Bulking

Calories In should be greater than Calories Out for bulking.

For example:-
Take a person who is of 150 lb and his maintenance calories is something around 2400 calories so if he wants to bulk than he has to consume some extra calories i.e. 200-1000 calories above his maintenance calories for bulking.

Now, if he consumes 1000 calories in addition to his maintenance calories than he will put too much fat and this is known as dirty bulking, I will discuss about this in next post.
And if he consumes 200-500 calories in addition to his maintenance calories than he will put little amount of fat and this is known as clean bulking, I will discuss about this in the next post.

There are two types of bulking:
1.) Clean bulking
2.) Dirty bulking

1.) Clean bulking means to gain muscles with very low fat.

2.) Dirty bulking means to gain muscles with large amount of fat.

Dirty Bulking: Bulking in which weight is gained with high fat percentage is known as dirty bulking.

Clean Bulking: Bulking in which weight is gained with low fat percentage is known as clean bulking.

 There are three types of body:
1. Ectomorph
         
                     
An ectomorph is a skinny guy or a hard gainer who has very small body frame.
They have to struggle for eating large calories due to their small appetite.

2. Endomorph

                                  

An endomorph is said to have a higher percentage of body fat with small amount of muscle mass. They are heavier but not obese.

3. Mesomorph

               

A mesomorph is a guy having great muscles and a well built body structure. Their metabolism is really good and muscle cells are responsive.

Depending on your body types you need to consume calories as we all know each and every person's energy expenditure is different so, their calories intake will be different for bulking.

# Bulking in a Season:
Actually, there is no any bulking season.
But most bodybuilders or fitness athletes like to bulk in winter season.
Yes, I also come to the same circle who usually bulks in winter season.

Now,lets see first perspective, what's the scientific reason behind this. Science says that cold weather causes muscles to loose more heat and contract that causes tightness throughout the body. So, winter is the best season for bulking.

Now, lets see second perspective, that is my perspective. According to me, when I bulk I put on some fat on my body and in the winter we wear heavy clothes, make layers etc etc. So because of this, the extra fat is not visible as I usually go out of my door in heavy clothes.

So, overall we can conclude that there is no bulking season and anyone can bulk in any season according to their point of comfort.

# Info in general:-
3500 calories is equal to 1 pound weight and it is the combination of muscle + fat.

For Example:-
Take a person who is of 150 lb and his maintenance calories is something around 2400 calories. And for bulking he is consuming extra 500 calories each day above his maintenance calories.
So, in day 1: he consumed 2900 calories
in day 2: he consumed 2900 calories
in day 3: he consumed 2900 calories
in day 4: he consumed 2900 calories
in day 5: he consumed 2900 calories
in day 6: he consumed 2900 calories
in day 7: he consumed 2900 calories

So, in week 1 he consumed extra 500 calories for 7 days i.e 500*7 = 3500 calories that is equal to 1 pound of weight.
